Bajocien inférieur (zones à Propinquans et Humphriesianum).
Genre à l’origine des Sphaeroceratidae.
Sphaerocones de taille relativement importante, à tours arrondis, loge d’habitation adulte contractée et ombilic étroit et profond. La costulation est très fine et dense, le dimorphisme sexuel bien marqué. Il n’y a aucune tuberculation. Le microconque porte des apophyses, tandis que le macroconque est pourvu d’un péristome formé d’une large lèvre lisse précédée d’une constriction profonde.

Bajocien inférieur.
Tours internes cadicones ou sphaerocones. Tours externes bien plus évolutes, à loge d’habitation longue, contractée et suture ombilicale à enroulement excentrique. Dimorphisme sexuel marqué, avec des macroconques de grande taille, à loges d’habitation parfois lisses et péristomes contractés à lèvre et collerette, et des microconques de petite taille à longues apophyses tombantes. Sutures complexes et très incisées comme chez Stephanoceras. [Howarth 2017]

Espèce du Bajocien inférieur, zone à Sauzei.
Position phylogénétique entre les Otoitidae et les véritables Sphaeroceratidae (Galácz, 1990). La forme microconque est représentée par Layrinthoceras manselli (J. BUCKMAN 1881).
Forme globuleuse. Dimorphisme sexuel bien exprimé par la taille (macroconque moyen à 7 cm, pouvant atteindre 14 cm, microconque à 2,5 cm). La faible expansion de la loge d’habitation adulte, longue d’un tour chez le macroconque et de 3/4 de tour chez le microconque, lui confère une section arrondie en regard des tours internes déprimés, épaisseur et hauteur restant néanmoins maximales juste avant la très forte constriction pré-péristoméale. Costulation très dense, aiguë, à tendance superficielle. Côtes primaires incurvées, prorsiradiées, divisées au delà du rebord ombilical en deux, rarement trois, côtes secondaires doucement infléchies en avant au passage du ventre arqué, avec souvent un faible retrait siphonal, et renforcées en fin de croissance.
